The farmers of Fischerhude
Since ages, the free farmers of Fischerhude have the right
to fish in all watercourses of the Wuemme river and to do the small game hunt in the surrounding areas.
Up to now, wild ducks were fed on in small cottages directly on the watercourses within the village, for using them as decoys during the ducks hunt (Pooljagd) in the late autumn.
According to taken measures of hydraulic engineering, the fishing fortune of the Wuemme got lost; but the swamps became green meadows and the former flooding areas became fertile farmland.
Today, the farmers mainly persue dairy farming and horse breeding, and ecological agriculture at modernized family farms, and in part they market their products themselves.
